7th Grade

Lara Hernandez has been teaching at San Francisco de Asis Catholic School for 15 years where she began teaching music, band and choir.  The past 8 years she has taught junior high math and science for 6th – 8th grades, is the 7th Grade Homeroom teacher, and still continues to provide music for school Masses and ceremonies and direct a school band and choir.  She has been in education for 25 years.  She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and a Master’s in Educational Leadership completed in December 2015.  She owned her own business prior to acquiring a teaching position at the school and says, “Once I joined the school 15 years ago, I knew this was where I was being called to serve and devote my time and talents.”  She has two children that have attended SFDA, her son has graduated and her daughter is attending junior high currently.  She believes strongly in the curriculum and faith formation at SFDA and attributes the school to preparing not only her children, but all children for success in high school and life.  “Not only does SFDA instill, foster and encourage Catholic identity and love of God and others in our children, it also stresses the importance of becoming a well-rounded individual for our society.  Because of the rigorous academics, nurturing environment, and immensely devoted and caring teachers, students from SFDA are recognized immediately and stand out in the high schools as extremely confident strong leaders who contribute positively to their community and excel at the top of their class academically.  Our alumni achieve many scholarships for higher education after high school and are very successful in life and in their careers.  SFDA is a loving supportive community that offers the best Catholic education in Flagstaff to all who enter our doors and I am very blessed, proud and humbled each day to be a part of this community and part of our SFDA education.”
