Beloved friends in Christ,

I want to thank you for the warm welcome I have received from you and your families. I am very grateful for your support and for the ways in which you have already helped make me feel at home at San Francisco de Asís Parish. I am looking forward to getting to know you better and spending time with you. I have been a priest 8 years and served the Church as a Franciscan friar for 18 years before I entered the Diocese of Phoenix.

Having been a Franciscan friar for many years, I am excited to help foster Franciscan spirituality and devotion at our parish. I am also excited to minister to our Native American parishioners and have already begun to learn some Navajo words (although not without some difficulty). Having myself family members and friends struggling with mental illness, I have been involved in ministry to the homeless and mentally ill for many years and this has been a priority for me in every place where I have ministered. I have also been involved with Project Rachel, which is a ministry helping women and men with post-abortion healing. As one of your parish priests, it is a great joy for me to walk with you on your journeys towards healing and wholeness. I want each of you to know that I am always available to listen to your needs, hopes, and experiences and to walk at your side.

A native Chicagoan, I enjoy Chicago-style pizza, Italian beef sandwiches, and Superdawg hot dogs (no ketchup on them). I also enjoy Cubs games (my family is from the north side). I’m predominantly German and Irish, so I am not opposed to a good pilsner at Oktoberfest or a pint of Guinness on Saint Patrick’s Day. Supporting our local police and fire departments is also important to me because I come from a family of Chicago firefighters and police officers. I worked for a time as a Police/Fire/911 Dispatcher before I entered the seminary. I have also been blessed for many years to befriend and assist priests from the Byzantine and Maronite Rites of the Catholic Church; Byzantine and Maronite spirituality and love for icons have helped me to grow as a priest and in appreciation for the Church’s liturgical diversity.

Please be assured of my prayers for you and keep me in your prayers also. I am very grateful to God, Mary, and Bishop Dolan for bringing me to our parish.

Quisiera agradecerles por la cálida bienvenida que he recibido de ustedes y sus familias. Estoy muy agradecido por su apoyo y por las formas en que ya me han ayudado a sentirme como en casa en la Parroquia San Francisco de Asís. Espero conocerles mejor y pasar tiempo con ustedes. He sido sacerdote durante 8 años y serví a la Iglesia como fraile franciscano durante 18 años antes de ingresar a la Diócesis de Phoenix. Habiendo sido fraile franciscano durante muchos años, estoy emocionado de ayudar a fomentar la espiritualidad y la devoción franciscana en nuestra parroquia. También estoy emocionado de ministrar a nuestros feligreses nativos americanos y ya he comenzado a aprender algunas palabras navajo (aunque no sin algunas dificultades). Debido al hecho de que tengo familiares y amigos que luchan contra enfermedades mentales, he estado involucrado en el ministerio a personas desamparadas y a personas con enfermedades mentales durante muchos años; esto ha sido una prioridad para mí en cada lugar donde he ministrado. También, he estado involucrado con el Proyecto Rachel, que es un ministerio que ayuda a mujeres y hombres con la curación post-aborto. Siendo uno de sus sacerdotes, para mí es una gran alegría caminar con ustedes en su viaje hacia la curación. Quisiera que cada uno de ustedes sepa que estoy siempre disponible para escuchar sus necesidades, esperanzas, y experiencias – caminando a su lado.

Soy nativo de Chicago, por lo que disfruto de la pizza estilo Chicago, los sándwiches de carne italiana y los hot dogs Superdawg (sin kétchup). También disfruto los partidos de los Cubs (mi familia es del lado norte de la ciudad). Soy predominantemente alemán e irlandés, por lo que no me opongo a una buena pilsner en el Oktoberfest o a una pinta de Guinness el día de San Patricio. Apoyar a nuestros departamentos de policía y bomberos locales también es importante para mí porque vengo de una familia de bomberos y agentes de policía de Chicago. Trabajé durante un tiempo como despachador del 911 antes de ingresar al seminario. También he tenido la bendición durante muchos años de hacer amistad y ayudar a varios sacerdotes del rito bizantino y maronita de la Iglesia católica, por lo que la espiritualidad bizantina y maronita y el amor por los íconos me han ayudado a crecer como sacerdote y en aprecio por la diversidad litúrgica de la Iglesia.
