The Genealogy of Jesus

Happy Fourth Sunday of Advent!

While today is indeed the 4th Sunday of Advent, Christmas Eve is just two days away. It’s a quick transition from Advent to getting the Church prepared for Christmas. Luckily, we have a wonderful core of volunteers who help clean, decorate, sacristan, lector, distribute Holy Communion, and much more. Thank you to everyone who help things go so smoothly!

As of this writing I’m not sure if the whole genealogy of Jesus will be read at the Masses, but it is an option for a couple of them. Sometimes this genealogy seems rather laborious. And yet, the Gospel writers (Matthew and Luke anyway) were willing to take the time to trace all these names to show the detail God loves in the story of salvation. Isn’t it beautiful that none of these people in the line are forgotten? That’s how God is, He remembers each of us, and the salvation that Jesus offers is for each of us. What a great gift to remember as we celebrate Christmas! Have a wonderful week and a great Christmas!

¡Feliz cuarto domingo de Adviento!

Si bien hoy es el cuarto domingo de Adviento, solo faltan dos días para la Nochebuena. Es una rápida transición del Adviento a preparar a la Iglesia para la Navidad. Afortunadamente, contamos con un maravilloso grupo de voluntarios que ayudan a limpiar, decorar, ser sacristán, leer, distribuir la Sagrada Comunión y mucho más. ¡Gracias a todos los que ayudan a que todo salga tan bien!

Al momento de escribir estas líneas, no estoy seguro de si se leerá toda la genealogía de Jesús en las misas, pero es una opción para un par de ellas. A veces, esta genealogía parece bastante laboriosa. Y, sin embargo, los escritores de los Evangelios (Mateo y Lucas al menos) estuvieron dispuestos a tomarse el tiempo para rastrear todos estos nombres para mostrar el detalle que Dios ama en la historia de la salvación. ¿No es hermoso que ninguna de estas personas en la fila sea olvidada? Así es Dios, Él se acuerda de cada uno de nosotros, y la salvación que Jesús ofrece es para cada uno de nosotros. ¡Qué gran regalo para recordar mientras celebramos la Navidad! ¡Que tengan una maravillosa semana y una feliz Navidad!
