Happy Sunday!

I hope everyone had good Christmas celebrations with family and loved ones. This week we have a special Mass schedule for the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. This is a Holy Day of Obligation. Tue, Dec 31, there will be a Vigil Mass at 5:30pm at SFdA. On Wed, Jan 1 there will be Mass at 10:00am in English and 12:15pm in Spanish. As you know, throughout the year there are various solemnities which we observe as Holy Days of Obligation. On these days the Church asks us to attend Mass as we would on Sunday.

These special solemnities are beautiful for what they celebrate, but also because they invite us to pause from the course of our normal daily events and consider what the Lord has done throughout history and desires to continue doing in our own day.

In the case of this week’s holy day, we are invited to ponder the wonderful way in which God has exalted the Blessed Virgin Mary by inviting her to be His own mother. This reminds us that God does not just want us to be blindly subservient, but that His love is such that He wants to exalt his lowly creatures. And we are part of that! This week we pray that we may be encouraged on in the life of faith to live boldly what we profess and draw closer to our God who desires to renew us in His love. ¡Feliz domingo!

Espero que todos hayan tenido unas felices celebraciones navideñas con sus familiares y seres queridos. Esta semana tenemos un horario especial de Misas para la Solemnidad de María, Madre de Dios. Este es un día santo de obligación. El martes 31 por la noche, habrá una Misa de Vigilia a las 5:30 p. m. en SFdA. El miércoles habrá Misa a las 10 a. m. en inglés y a las 12:15 p. m. en español. Como sabéis, a lo largo del año hay diversas solemnidades que observamos como Días Santos de Obligación. En estos días, la Iglesia nos pide que asistamos a Misa como lo haríamos el domingo. Estas solemnidades especiales son hermosas por lo que celebran, pero también porque nos invitan a hacer una pausa en el curso de nuestros eventos diarios normales y considerar lo que el Señor ha hecho a lo largo de la historia y desea seguir haciendo en nuestros propios días.

En el caso del día santo de esta semana, estamos invitados a reflexionar sobre la manera maravillosa en la que Dios ha exaltado a la Santísima Virgen María al invitarla a ser Su propia madre. Esto nos recuerda que Dios no sólo quiere que seamos ciegamente serviciales, sino que su amor es tal que quiere exaltar a sus humildes criaturas. ¡Y nosotros somos parte de eso! Esta semana oramos para que nos alentemos a participar en la vida de fe, vivir con valentía lo que profesamos, y acercarnos a nuestro Dios que desea renovarnos en su amor. ¡Que tengan una excelente semana y sepan que estoy rezando por ustedes!
