All Souls' Day: A Time to Reflect and Pray

Happy All Souls' Day!

Today the Church celebrates the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed. Indeed, throughout the month of November the Church prays for the deceased in a particular way. This has been a practice of the Church from the beginning. I remember visiting the catacombs in Rome and seeing the different graffiti throughout the underground tunnels. Families used to gather at the tombs of their loved ones to pray and would also bring a picnic.

This practice persists to our own day. I highly recommend visiting one of the cemeteries here to pray for the dead during the month of November. This can be a great practice to do as a family and pray for those whom we knew in this life as well as those whom we didn't know. Praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet is a very praiseworthy practice when visiting cemeteries.

Just another reminder that Nathan Blanchard, the son of Deacon Greg, will be ordained a deacon here on Saturday November 22nd at 11am. We hope you can join us for this exciting event! That day there will be no regularly scheduled morning mass nor confessions.

El Día De Los Difuntos: Un Momento Para Reflexionar Y Rezar

¡Feliz Día de los Fieles Difuntos!

Hoy la Iglesia celebra la Conmemoracion de Todos los Fieles Difuntos. De hecho, durante todo el mes de noviembre la Iglesia reza de manera particular por los difuntos. Esta ha sido una práctica de la Iglesia desde sus inicios. Recuerdo haber visitado las catacumbas de Roma y ver los diferentes grafitis a lo largo de los tuneles subterraneos. Las familias solían reunirse ante las tumbas de sus seres queridos para rezar y también llevaban un picnic.

Esta práctica persiste hasta nuestros días. Recomiendo mucho visitar uno de los cementerios de aquí para orar por los muertos durante el mes de noviembre. Esta puede ser una excelente práctica para hacerlo en familia y rezar por aquellos que conocimos en esta vida, así como por aquellos que no conocimos. Rezar la Coronilla de la Divina Misericordia es una práctica muy loable al visitar los cementerios.

Quiero hacer otro recordatorio de que Nathan Blanchard, el hijo del diácono Greg, será ordenado diácono aquí el sábado 22 de noviembre a las 11 am. ¡Esperamos que puedan acompañarnos en este emocionante evento! Ese día no habrá Misa matutina ni confesiones como habitualmente está previsto.
