Gratitude, Growth, and Grace Ahead

Happy Sunday!

This week I am currently on my retreat so this letter is being written early. Thank you for your prayers during my retreat in Louisiana. On Tuesday I will fly back to Arizona and return to Flagstaff on Wednesday evening. It's amazing that Thanksgiving will be upon us so soon and then Advent beginning. Before that though, we will be hosting the diaconate ordination of Nathan Blanchard next Saturday. Please keep him and the whole Blanchard family in your prayers as they prepare for this exciting event. The ordination will be at 11:00am on Saturday. Due to preparations there will be no morning mass or confessions next Saturday the 22nd.

I am excited to announce that Bishop Dolan has granted me a sabbatical in the New Year. I will be gone from January 11th until February 27th. The Diocesan policy on priest sabbaticals states, "Although a sabbatical is characterized as a time of rest, this "rest" is one that actively seeks personal growth, a more profound spiritual life, an opportunity to develop new pastoral skills and refine old ones, and the pursuit of Truth."

I will be spending the majority of my time away in Honduras working on my Spanish, spending extra time in prayer, and helping with the missionary community with whom I'll be staying. Unfortunately, this means I will miss Ash Wednesday for the second year in a row but I am glad that I will be back for the last five weeks of Lent. Thank you so much for your prayers. I look forward to this time of intellectual, spiritual, and pastoral renewal!

Gratitud, Crecimiento y Gracia por Delante

¡Feliz domingo!

Esta semana estoy en mi retiro espiritual, por lo que escribo esta carta con anticipación. Gracias por sus oraciones durante mi retiro en Luisiana. El martes volaré de regreso a Arizona y volveré a Flagstaff el miércoles por la noche. Es increíble que el Día de Acción de Gracias esté tan cerca y que luego comienza el Adviento. Sin embargo, antes de eso, el próximo sábado celebraremos la ordenación diaconal de Nathan Blanchard. Por favor, incluyan a Nathan y a toda la familia Blanchard en sus oraciones mientras se preparan para este emocionante evento. La ordenación será a las 11:00 a. m. del sábado. Debido a los preparativos, no habrá Misa matutina ni confesiones el próximo sábado 22.

Me complace anunciar que el obispo Dolan me ha concedido un año sabático en el Año Nuevo. Estaré ausente del 11 de enero al 27 de febrero. La política diocesana sobre los años sabáticos de los sacerdotes establece: "Si bien un año sabático se caracteriza por ser un tiempo de descanso, este 'descanso' busca activamente el crecimiento personal, una vida espiritual más profunda, la oportunidad de desarrollar nuevas habilidades pastorales y perfeccionar las ya existentes, y la búsqueda de la Verdad".

Pasaré la mayor parte del tiempo en Honduras perfeccionando mi español, dedicando más tiempo a la oración y colaborando con la comunidad misionera con la que me hospedaré. Lamentablemente, esto significa que me perderé el Miércoles de Ceniza por segundo año consecutivo, pero me alegra saber que estaré de vuelta durante las últimas cinco semanas de Cuaresma. Muchas gracias por sus oraciones. ¡Espero con ilusión este tiempo de renovación intelectual, espiritual y pastoral!
