Feast of the Dedication of the Basilica of the Lateran Basilica

Happy Sunday!

This Sunday the Church celebrates the Feast of the Dedication of the Basilica of the Lateran Basilica. Commonly called St. John Lateran, this church is the Pope's cathedral. It is one of the four major basilicas in Rome and is a beautiful place of pilgrimage. Lining the main aisle are six columns on either side with a different apostle in each column. Some of the apostles hold the instrument of their martyrdom, others have symbolic features from their life, each of them is massive.

This year we have had many feasts that supersede the Sunday in Ordinary Time and this is another. In one way, it is a great gift to celebrate more of these feast days that usually pop up during the week. I pray it bears fruit for each of you in your own lives of prayer.

Today I am leaving for my eight day silent retreat. Please keep me in your prayers during my time in Louisiana. This is a very privileged time each year to spend time with the Lord and be cut off from electronics and the general noise of the world. I am always grateful to Fr. Michael for taking care of things here for me while I am away. Have a great week and know of my prayers!

¡Feliz domingo! Este domingo, la Iglesia celebra la Fiesta de la Dedicación de la Basílica de Letran. Comúnmente llamada San Juan de Letrán, esta iglesia es la catedral del Papa. Es una de las cuatro basílicas mayores de Roma y un hermoso lugar de peregrinación. A ambos lados del pasillo principal se alzan seis columnas, cada una con la estatua de un apóstol diferente. Algunos de los apóstoles portan el instrumento de su martirio, otros tienen rasgos simbólicos de su vida; cada uno de ellos es imponente.

Este año hemos tenido muchas fiestas que sustituyen al domingo del Tiempo Ordinario y esta es otra. En cierto modo, es una gran bendición poder celebrar más de estas fiestas que suelen aparecer entre semana. Ruego que den fruto para cada uno de ustedes en su vida de oración.

Hoy parto para mi retiro de silencio de ocho días. Les pido que me tengan presente en sus oraciones durante mi estancia en Luisiana. Cada año, este es un momento muy privilegiado para pasar tiempo con el Señor y desconectarme de la tecnología y del ruido general del mundo. Siempre agradezco al Padre Michael por cuidar de todo aquí mientras estoy fuera. ¡Que tengan una buena semana y sepan que rezo por ustedes!
