Be Ready to Give the Reason for your Hope

Happy Sunday!

This Sunday in our second reading we hear from the first letter of St. Peter, "Sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts. Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope, but do it with gentleness and reverence ... " This beautiful passage always strikes to the heart.

I love thinking of Peter as an old man who has mellowed out from his very active youth. Peter, who was always willing to say what he thought needed to be said, even to Jesus, now finds himself an old man instructing the nascent Churches. He tells them the most important thing first, "Sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts" Without this, what else is there? Let Jesus take the first place. Once he is there, then you shall "be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope."

This is the call for every Christian, to be prepared to share the good news, to tell of the hope we have in eternal life. And how? " ... But do it with gentleness and reverence ... " Long gone are the days of saying, "God forbid Lord, no such thing shall ever happen to you!" (Matthew 16:22). Now Peter instructs the first Christian to share the Gospel with "gentleness and reverence." This is our invitation as well.

This week, ask the Lord that He might be sanctified in your heart so as to be prepared to share the reason for your hope. Know of my prayers and have a great week!

¡Feliz domingo! Este domingo, en nuestra segunda lectura, escucha- mos de la Primera Carta de

San Pedro: <Veneren en sus corazones a Cristo, el Señor, dispuestos siempre a dar, al que las pidiere, las razones de la esperanza de ustedes. Pero háganlo con sencillez y respeto ... ". Este hermoso pasaje siempre llega directo al corazón.

Me encanta imaginar a Pedro como un anciano que ha moderado su carácter tras una juventud muy activa. Pedro -quien siempre estuvo dispuesto a decir lo que creía que debía decirse, incluso a Jesús- se encuentra ahora, siendo ya anciano, instruyendo a las nacientes Iglesias. Les dice lo más importante en primer lugar: "Veneren en sus corazones a Cristo, el Señor". Sin esto, ¿qué más queda? Dejen que Jesús ocupe el primer lugar. Una vez que Él esté allí, entonces estarán "dispuestos siempre a dar, al que las pidiere, las razones de la esperanza de ustedes".

Este es el llamado para todo cristiano: estar preparados para compartir la Buena Nueva, para hablar de la esperanza que tenemos en la vida eterna. ¿Y cómo? " ... Pero háganlo con sencillez y respeto ... ". Atrás quedaron los días de decir: "¡Dios no lo permita, Señor! ¡Eso no te sucederá jamás!" (Mateo 16:22). Ahora, Pedro instruye a los primeros cristianos a compartir el Evangelio con "sencillez y respeto". Esta es también nuestra invitación.

Esta semana, pidan al Señor que El sea venerado en sus corazones, para así estar preparados para compartir la razón de su esperanza. Cuenten con mis oraciones y ¡que tengan una excelente semana!
